How to Open a Locked Washing Machine Door

Method 1:

First method is through pulling handle. First switch off the machine and wait for 5min to cool down. Most of the top load machines are opened through this method. Cooling around the door will make the rubber contract and making it easier to open the doors.

In case of front load machine,it is usually blocked because of some obstacle or any foreign object like buttons,toys and coins. Remove that and another trick is to gently shake the machine to let you know what is hindering.

Method 2:

If you can`t find any such obstacle in the door of front load machine search for small door release button that is hidden inside the door frame or some kind of door latch. You can press that using some straightened wire,log paper clip or coat hanger.

Method 3:

If you couldn`t find the any hidden lock, you can try another method before cotacting technician that is known has fishing line. Once the fishing line or wire is thin but strong string that is looped around the door where you can fix the look part in some hook or somewhere and keep open ends in your hand. Gently but forcefully pull it towards yourself. Keep on applying pressure till you hear some click or see the door slightly moves. Once you see any sign of opening don`t leave the strings at once as in this could let the door back to stuck position.  Keep string in one hand and slightly pull the door to open. Whereas on the top load machine you can pull the string in lids direction towards the back of machine in perpendicular form.

You can try opening door through old metal gift cards or credit card. You can do this through inserting card in the lock.

It is always recommended and strogly advices to not to use something of metal while working with washing machines unassistidly. So it is recommended to use following things once you carefully switch off the machine.

Nylon line or cord but not the metal cord as it will leave scratches on the machines.
